We invent more crises in our minds than we ever experience in our lives. I think that’s why Jesus tells the disciples in Mt 6:34, “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” But being anxiety free is impossible for us. We worry about things we can’t control and sometimes we worry so much that we scarcely have time for anything else. That’s why Jesus shows us the way out of worry, saying in the verse before “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” We escape the worry trap by busying ourselves with God’s work! When we seek to live his will we have no time for worry. And when we’re consumed with worry it’s because we have set aside his work. Worry and Kingdom work cannot occupy the same space.
