Outreach takes place every day that God’s people go out into the world and live and share their faith. It takes place every week when people reach out to others in the name of Christ. It takes place when folk are invited by Church members to attend Sunday School and worship. And it takes place when good is done in the name of God.
If VBS is the only time of the year you do outreach, you don’t understand what outreach is. Outreach isn’t an item on the calendar, it’s a lifestyle. Churches don’t do outreach, Christians do. And if outreach isn’t being done, it isn’t the fault of Churches, it’s the fault of those individual Christians who are not reaching out in the name of Christ each and every day.
If the end of VBS spells the end of outreach for you, then you need to repent and begin to live the Gospel more than one week a year.

For pastors in North America, the greatest challenge is the cultural shift away from Christianity, said David Laubach, the North American presenter at the BWA workgroup about church health and effectiveness.
Five decades ago, 80 percent of Americans attended church regularly, Laubach said, according to the Associated Baptist Press. Now, the number has fallen between 20 and 42 percent depending on self-reported attendance or actual Sunday seat counts.
Moreover, three-quarters of U.S. churches report a membership plateau or decline. Out of the churches that are growing, nearly a quarter are doing so by taking members from declining churches. Only one percent of U.S. churches are growing by attracting new members from the unchurched population.
“Shrinking resources, absence of biological growth, aging mainline denominational populations, mobility, consumerist/entertainment culture, a sometimes-hostile environment, increased pastoral expectations and role overload, dramatically shifting ecclesiology, church change and conflict” are some of the stress North American pastors face, Laubach said.
This report is from this week’s Christian Post. It bespeaks a serious situation that those in our own Association are more than familiar with- the increasing problem of pastorless churches and the reasons those pastors are leaving, many the ministry altogether. Churches across the United States are dying. Failing a national awakening or revival, we can all expect this trend to continue.

The week went well, the bumps in the road were few, and the gospel was shared. What more could one ask for?
Here’s some photos from the final day. Commencement is Sunday at 7 p.m.

We had a great turnout and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Most importantly, of course, the Gospel was shared with a lot of kids. Here’s a couple of photos. To see lots more from day one, you’ll just have to come to Commencement Sunday night at 7.
